Becoming a Provider
CHIP medical and dental services are delivered by private managed care plans. Each plan develops and maintains its own network of providers. You’ll find a complete list of CHIP medical and dental plans at the bottom of the Questions about your benefits page of the HHSC website. You can also see CHIP medical plans and areas they serve on this map.
To become a Medicaid provider (STAR, STAR+PLUS, or STAR Health), please contact our contractor, the Texas Medicaid & Healthcare Partnership (TMHP). A good place to start is the provider page of the TMHP website.
Checking CHIP Eligibility
To see if a child is enrolled, you can call the CHIP provider eligibility hotline at 1-800-645-7164, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Central Time. They should be able to confirm whether a child is a currently enrolled CHIP member. If you have the child’s CHIP ID card, you also can call the plan to confirm eligibility.
Checking Medicaid Eligibility
Medicaid providers who need to find out if their patient is covered by Medicaid can call TMHP Provider General Inquiries at 1-800-925-9126 and speak with a customer service rep.
